Smooth operation of pumping equipment depends on availability of mechanical inclusions in incoming flow so special attention shall be paid to this challenge. Vegetable residues, debris, small stones may damage the equipment. The problem is especially acute for water intake from open sources. A filter is secured on an intake pipe and is lowered down into water at an intake point. A fine screen drawn around a body prevents ingress of foreign matters into a pipeline.
The filter design is a screen made of stainless steel; the screen is secured on a cylinder frame. A flange for connection to the pipeline and a water supply connection to washing nozzles are located in the cylinder upper part. Upon the pump starting, incoming flow passes through a screen which retains all mechanical inclusions the sizes of which are larger than the sizes of mesh. In the course of time the screen may accumulate a great number of debris. Serious problems connected with the pump steady operation may arise in case of heavily polluted water. In case of decrease in capacity the filter screen on the incoming line shall be flushed. Water under at least 1.5 bar pressure is supplied to washing nozzles. A flushing jet inside the screen washes off all contaminants which have stuck to the screen external surface.
